• Rahm, JT to start 2020 battle

While a number of big names are conspicuous in their absence, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm will lead the field at the year-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions.

US Open champion Gary Woodland and defending champion Xavier Schauffele join Thomas and Rahm among the favourites in the field reserved for winners only.

The pair will likely have to see off the threat posed by Dustin Johnson if they are to start 2020 with a victory.

South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli is part of the fun at the Plantation Course at Kapalua but Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka have all opted against teeing it up.

Woods has not played here in over a decade while McIlroy has opted to skip the trip this year. Koepka is continuing his recovery from a knee injury which saw him miss the Presidents Cup.

Woods is expected to make his 2020 debut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines from 23-26 January.

Shane Lowry, Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose have all joined Woods, McIlroy and Koepka in missing the opening week in Maui.

The Sentry Tournament of Champions field:
