• McIlroy, Fowler roast JT after club toss

    Justin Thomas club toss

Justin Thomas took to social media to defend himself after tossing a club in frustration during the final round of the WGC Mexico Championship on Sunday.

Thomas went into the final round with a one-shot lead, but an opening 38, featuring three bogeys and a double at the par 3 seventh which saw him fade from the running before finishing in a tie for fifth.

It was his club toss that irked many critics, forcing Thomas to defend himself before fellow pros gave him a bit of a roasting.

‘Yes I’m an emotional player. It’s in my character and always has been, I’ll always have fire in me. Sorry to those offended by my actions,’ tweeted the world number seven on Sunday.

The incident caught the eye of Rory McIlroy, who couldn’t resist getting involved in the action.

Friend and fellow world top-tenner Rickie Fowler also chimed in.

The last laugh? Well, that belonged to Thomas who dug into the archives to find a picture of McIlroy doing the same, if not worse, at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral.
