Garrick Higgo enjoyed a fine run into the clubhouse to share sixth place after round one of the Euram Bank Open.

The Stellenbosch star carded an opening 65 to sit two shots off the pace set by Australian Deyen Lawson.

Higgo started the event fairly innocuously with an early bogey and a birdie at the fourth the only ‘action’ in his outward nine. Then the fireworks began as the left-hander rattled off gains at the 10th and 11th before another pair of back to back birdies at 14 and 15.

A birdie at the 17th put him within two strokes of the lead as he signed for a 65.

Earlier this year, Higgo put the icing on his Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year campaign by edging Haydn Porteous in the season-ending Tour Championship at Serengeti Golf and Lifestyle Estate.
