    Richard Sterne
    Playing his way back

Richard Sterne’s final hole loss in Abu Dhabi was the standout moment for South Africans playing on all three major tours this weekend.

Sterne, who started the day three back, went out in 31 in tough conditions at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The South African failed to find the 18th green in two, which allowed Shane Lowry to two-putt his way to his fourth victory. There was some consolation for the likes of Sterne and Louis Oosthuizen, who finished solo fourth, as they reaped the rewards of good play in the Rolex Series.

    PGA TOUR – Desert Classic

Phil Mickelson, who finished with two birdies in his final three holes, failed to replicate Lowry’s wire-to-wire win as Adam Long broke through, thanks to a final round 65.

Only one South African, Dylan Frittelli, made the cut, with Charl Schwartzel and Tyrone van Aswegen both not doing enough.

Frittelli’s final round 70 saw him drop nine places to finish in a share of 28th place.

    Asian Tour – Singapore Open

Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond, 23, won the Singapore Open by two shots from England’s Paul Casey and Japan’s Yoshinori Fujimoto. Casey’s countryman, Matt Fitzpatrick, was alone in fourth.

A 73 saw Shaun Norris fall back to share 24th place alongside Keith Horne (69). Justin Harding was back in 51st place with Jbe Kruger missing the cut.
