‘That was a nice solid round,’ said Schwartzel. ‘I’ve been feeling due for some good rounds and today I started off a bit mediocre, but made three great putts in the first few holes and took it from there.’

Out in front were Francesco Molinari and Sergio Garcia, co-leaders on five under par and three strokes ahead of third-placed Lee Westwood.
‘I felt like I was swinging the club really, really well,’ said Garcia. ‘I was hitting a lot of good shots. I hit a couple of iffy putts here and there but I made some really good ones, also. I was very happy to see all of that.’
