Randfontein Golf Club will remain closed until 1 February 2021 after the club’s owner confirmed the news after weeks of speculation about its future.

Designed by Bob Grimsdell in the early part of the nineteen hundreds, it underwent an extensive redesign by Golf Data in 1993.

‘We would like to inform everyone that management of the Golf and Country Club has regrettably and reluctantly decided to shut down its golfing side of the operations,’ said Bizzah Matsobane, the club’s owner.

Matsobane, speaking to the Randfontein Herald, revealed that the  course will be ‘revamped, reconstructed, redeveloped and repositioned’ during the period of 1 April to 31 January 2021.

While the course remains closed, the events, restaurant and catering service section will continue.

Matsobane said that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic was not the reason but it did have a negative effect with membership numbers declining. He further called for members and stakeholders to bear with them in this time and apologised for any inconvenience.
