Palmer carded a spectacular nine-under-par 64 for his third round display to move joint top, while English ticked away with a solid 66.

Collin Morikawa, though, remains firmly in contention and will start Sunday’s action a single stroke behind on 20 under.

The 23-year-old rolled in eight birdies on Saturday for a bogey-free round, leaving him in a good position to win a third PGA Tour title.

World No 1 Dustin Johnson could only manage a third-round 69, which means he will head into the final round in T10 and on 14 under par.
