Director-General for Sports, Arts and Culture, Vusumusi Mkhize, called on all golf estates to desist from resuming golf activities until the official level 3 regulations are gazetted in his official reprimand addressed to GolfRSA, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

Despite ongoing calls from GolfRSA for patience and adherence to the laws in place, two clubs – believed to be Dainfern and Kyalami – were found in contravention of the regulations published on 28 May 2020.

This led to golf receiving an official notice spelling out the consequences.

Monday’s reprimand did, however, include a vote of appreciation addressed to the CEO of GolfRSA, Grant Hepburn, for the ‘various engagements’ as the golfing body and government ‘chart the way forward towards the return to play for the sport sector’.

That was where the good news ended, though, as the contraventions and issues created from such unlawful actions were clearly spelled out.

Reacting to the letter from government, Hepburn said: ‘GolfRSA does not condone the opening of any golf facilities before the department gazettes the official regulations and we sincerely hope these actions have not put the reopening of the golf industry at risk.’ [Read the full reaction HERE]
