European Tour Player of the Year Francesco Molinari is another player struggling to include his home tour in his playing schedule in 2019.

    COLUMN: Europe now lagging behind

The Ryder Cup star is the latest marquee player to raise doubts how often he will be seen in Europe. The news follows that of Rory McIlroy, who could yet turn down membership following changes to the schedules of both tours in the new year.

The Italian, who won The Open for his Major breakthrough, admitted that September could be the first time he pegs it up on the European Tour.

‘With the changes, it is a bit different. Wentworth [host of the BMW PGA] was always the first for me, but now it has moved from May to September, that might be the first regular European Tour event I play,’ he said.

Molinari also admitted that he is struggling to fit the British Masters into his playing schedule after an invite from Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood.

‘I would like to play the British Masters, but it depends probably on the first couple of months of the season,’ Molinari said.

‘If I learnt one thing this season it is to be a bit flexible with the schedule, playing two tours.’
