• Louis, Charl tumble as Grace and Harding fight on

    Not a week to remember

Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel crashed out of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans after a quintuple bogey at the start of their second round derailed their day.

The pair were the leading South Africans after round one, thanks to a betterball 64; one better than Branden Grace, who chose the in-form Justin Harding as his partner for the week.

But poor weather forced a quick turnaround, and it immediately bit the Major-winning combination as they changed to the alternate shot format.

The pair – who finished third last year in this non-World Rankings event – slumped to a 78 in a round that included just three birdies.

Veteran Ernie Els, playing in the field with Presidents Cup assistant Trevor Immelman, is likely to miss the cut. The pair are even, second from bottom, through five holes in round two.

There is some significant South African interest, with Grace and Harding five off the lead held by Peter Malnati and Billy Hurley III.

The pair signed for an opening 65 and then got their second round off to the perfect start with birdies at one and two. A trio of pars followed before a lack of light halted play for the second consecutive day.
