Zander Lombard continues to go about his business quietly at the World Super 6 Perth as he enters the weekend just two off the pace.

The 23-year-old trails defending champion Brett Rumford and veteran European Tour star Lee Westwood at the halfway mark.

Lombard moved up six places to seventh alone with a Friday 70, which was spoiled with a bogey on his final hole for the second successive round.

He made birdies at the 3rd and 4th, but turned just one-under after a bogey at the 6th. He then went back-to-back again at the 11th and 12th before a string of pars – including the par-five 15th that he albatrossed yesterday – before his late drop saw him fall out of the chasing pack, which includes Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen and Australian Lucas Herbert. They are two of four players chasing down the 36-hole leaders.

The duo were paired together for the first two rounds at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, and defending champion Rumford had the edge after day one as he opened up a two-shot lead.

It was Westwood who stole the show in difficult windy conditions on Friday, however, posting a 70 to join Perth native Rumford at eight-under. The pair will once again be playing together for the final round of stroke play.

The top 24 – with the top eight seeded – after 54 holes will face each other in matchplay over six holes on Sunday, with five rounds of competition determining who will take home the trophy.

Jbe Kruger suffered a late double which saw him miss the cut by one with countryman Christiaan Bezuidenhout joining him on the sidelines this weekend.
