A stretch during the middle of his round mirrored the heat out on the course as Dylan Frittelli matched his Thursday 68 with another one on Friday, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

Frittelli, who spoke to Compleat Golfer about his second round plans on Thursday, was able to go out and do exactly what he planned, as he continued to find the fairways at the Shenzhen International in China.

‘Today was another good day, I played really well and consistently throughout the round,’ Frittelli told Compleat Golfer.

‘Barring the slight hiccup on 15 where I made double, I went around nicely and hit a lot of fairways and greens. I managed to make some easy birdies on the par 5s, which was good too.’

Frittelli was pleased with his ball-striking in hot conditions on Friday, which allowed him to score well despite not being able to match his putting numbers from his opening round at Genzon Golf Course.

‘The course played a little tougher, the heat was definitely up and it was soft underfoot, so the odd mudball happened.’

With storms approaching, the afternoon field might struggle to match the morning field’s pace, which could see the University of Texas alumnus remain inside the top five at the halfway mark.

The 26-year-old took advantage of his position in the field as he enjoyed a fine stretch from holes nine to 13.

‘The best part of my round was definitely the middle part where I made birdie on 9, 10 and 11. I almost birdied 12 and then followed it up with a birdie on 13 – even on 14 I had a good look at birdie, but my putt just rolled over the lip.

‘I finished strong as well with a tw0-putt birdie on 17, which could’ve been an eagle and then a solid par on 18.’

Frittelli admits to feeling a bit drained after two days in the heat, but is confident of being fit and raring to go for the weekend as he jostles for position at the top of the leaderboard.
