FROM THE MAG: Frittelli ticks all the boxes

The University of Texas alumnus has enjoyed a great 2017, which culminated in winning his first European Tour title in Austria. Now, he turns his attention to the year’s third Major in Southport.

‘I’m feeling very excited for the week,’ said Frittelli, after finishing off his preparations ahead of round one.

‘It’s my first Major and I am going to enjoy the experience and soak it all in.

‘My game isn’t in amazing shape coming off the last few weeks, but I am still confident going into my first Major. I have done all the work I can on the course and I am hitting it pretty well, so it’s all there.

‘I just need to get my mental side in top shape, so that I can go out there and play to the best of my potential.’

Frittelli anticipates that the wind will be a major factor this week with the course playing differently each day during the practice rounds.

‘When the south-easterly blew, the course dried out and you had bounce balls on to the greens, whereas before that you could fly the ball and pitch it quite close to the pins.

‘So yeah, the wind and the rain will definitely play a huge role this week.’
