South African combination Jaco Ahlers and Schalk Burger Snr were unable to mount a final-day assault in the pro-am at the Dunhill Links, finishing seven shots behind the winners, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

Kieran McManus and former Ryder Cup winner Jamie Donaldson ran away with the title on Sunday, after firing an astonishing 56 at the Old Course at St Andrews.

The win is Kieran McManus’ third as he overtakes his father JP’s tally of two.

Donaldson played his part in the final 18 holes, despite missing the cut in the main tournament. The duo’s winning score of -40 was three better than Brian Mcfadden and Robert Rock, Shantanu Narayen and Victor Dubuisson and Erwee Botha and Yikeun Chang.

Australian cricket legend Shane Warne and Kiwi pro Ryan Fox fired a final round 62 to finish in a share of fifth place in the pro-am.

It was somewhat of a disappointing final day for former Springbok Schalk Burger Snr and his partner Jaco Ahlers. The South African pair scored their third 65 to finish in a share of ninth place after starting the day just two shots off the pace.

‘Thank you to my partner @skalabrak for an unforgettable week!! We gave it our best!! There’s always next year!! @dunhilllinks,’ tweeted Ahlers after the final round.

Finishing three shots behind Burger/Ahlers was Jacques Kallis and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. The former international cricketer matched the rugby player’s final round of 65 to finish T14.

Brian Higgins and South African professional George Coetzee finished T17.
