Johannes Veerman produced a final-round 68 at the Albatross Golf Resort this past Sunday to claim his maiden European Tour title with a two-stroke victory in the Czech Masters.

The 29-year-old American, who finished 15 under par for the tournament, was engaged in a thrilling final-round battle with playing partners Tapio Pulkkanen and Henrik Stenson.

The lead changed hands several times before Pulkkanen’s double-bogey at the last handed a calm Veerman the victory.

Pulkkanen and Sean Crocker finished in a tie for second on 13 under, with 2016 British Open champion Stenson and former Czech Masters champion Paul Peterson another stroke back.

“When I walked off the green I felt relief more than anything,” said Veerman.

“Being neck and neck with Henrik, Tapio and Sean Crocker and a whole bunch of guys – to come out on top, breathe a sigh of relief. I’m elated. I feel amazing.

“To finally break out and win on the European Tour, it’s a dream come true being a European Tour winner.”

Home favourite Ales Korinek produced a memorable moment for the local fans when he fired a brilliant hole-in-one at the 208-yard 13th.
