The course continues to bring in accolades

Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club continue to reap the rewards of their East Championship course renovation with the addition of two top international awards.

The club were awarded both South Africa’s Best Golf Course and Africa’s Best Golf Course at the 2018 World Golf Awards in La Manga, Spain this weekend.

The club embarked on the upgrades last July which focused on new bunkers and resurfaced bent grass greens, the club also took the opportunity to make some adjustments where needed, including additional water storage, tree pruning and the implementation of championship identity.

Among the achievements of the operation was making the East course easier for the amateur while still maintaining its championship challenge for the professional golfer.

‘Winning the best course in South Africa by World Golf Awards is not only a honor but a great testament to this beautiful facility,’ said CEO Chris Bentley.

The prize puts Royal alongside the top courses in the world including Abu Dhabi Golf Club, host of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA in January, which was voted ‘UAE’s Best Golf Course 2018’ and ‘Abu Dhabi’s Best Golf Course 2018’.

‘I can’t remember ever feeling this proud. Receiving an award of international recognition for the club is such a privilege. I can only thank the members, staff and service providers for their continued support and loyalty, which is the reason our East Course has been recognized as the best in the country.’ said club chairman Alan Field.

Knysna’s Pezula was named Africa’s Best Golf Hotel.

The Old Course at St Andrews was awarded world’s Best Golf Course with Portugal winning the top golfing destination award.
