Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel found some momentum to take into Thursday’s PGA Championship with sub-70 Sunday rounds.

Grace was the best-performing of the South African quartet on Sunday, while Schwartzel finished the best as he closed with a 69 to sit in T22 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Grace outscored Schwartzel by one shot, despite two bogeys in his final four holes. He opened with two consecutive birdies and made five pars before another birdie on 8. Another 5 consecutive pars followed before his fourth and final birdie on 14, before giving two back in two holes.

Grace’s 68 moved him to -1 for the week in Akron, one worse than compatriot Schwartzel. The former Masters champion was another that suffered some late drops, but still managed to go under par for his round, with an eye on the fourth Major at Quail Hollow.

Schwartzel made the turn in -1 before birdies at 10 and 12 saw him move to three-under for the day until two late bogeys at 16 and 18.

Also making the trip to the PGA Championship, Louis Oosthuizen will do so, but with plenty to do after a disappointing week in Ohio. Following his missed cut at The Open, Oosthuizen shot 73 on Sunday and was six shots over par for the no cut event.

Bogeys at 4, 5, 8, 9 and 13 were offset by birdies at 15 and 16 – a silver lining to his preparations for the final Major of the year.

Shaun Norris finished +12 after a closing round of 71.
