Trevor Immelman will captain the Internationals in 2021 when the Presidents Cup travels to Charlotte for the match at Quail Hollow Club.

The 11-time winner around the world and current analyst, who won the 2008 Masters defeating Tiger Woods, has taken over the reins from countryman Ernie Els.

‘You could say the Presidents Cup was a huge part of launching my PGA Tour career. Being a captain now is an amazing honour,’ said Immelman.

‘The Presidents Cup and the PGA Tour have been a massive part of my career, and so for me to now lead the International team is something that is going to be one of the highlights of my career, and something that I can’t wait for.’

Immelman has a playing record of 1-6-1 in two appearances and now takes charge of a side that has an overall record of 1-11-1 with no wins on US soil.

He served as a vice-captain last year when Els’ side went close to a win.

‘My relationship with Trevor goes way back, and I have the utmost respect for him as a player and a person,’ Els said.

‘Trevor was an invaluable member of our team and totally bought into what we were trying to do at Royal Melbourne, so it is gratifying to see him take this next step and lead the International team.’
