Louis Oosthuizen will join Patrick Reed and Charley Hoffman for the first two rounds of the 101st PGA Championship, set for Bethpage Black on Thursday.
South Africa’s No 1 is one of eight Saffas in the field looking to end the barren run at this Major being played in its new and early calendar spot.
Not since Gary Player in 1972 has a South African lifted the Wanamaker Trophy, with Oosthuizen famously wrapping up his career slam of runner-ups at this event two years ago.
Ranked 21st in the world, he enters without much competitive play under his belt. His post-Masters play has seen him active in just two rounds at the Zurich Classic, a stop-start team event.
Oosthuizen gets his bid under way at 1:51pm off the 10th tee, two groups ahead of Erik van Rooyen, a European Tour player in good form.
Van Rooyen is joined by popular Irishman Shane Lowry, and a player favoured by many, Tommy Fleetwood.
The group in the time slot behind this big-hitting threeball is Henrik Stenson, David Lipsky and Richard Sterne.
At 6:32pm, Branden Grace will start his journey to a first Major win with Eddie Pepperell and Zurich Classic winner Ryan Palmer for company.
Brandon Stone must wait until 7:49pm to start alongside Americans Kevin Tway and Bronson Burgoon, who has replaced the injured Charl Schwartzel in the field.
Justin Harding, who impressed early at Augusta en route to a T12 finish, is the first South African off on Thursday with France’s Mike Lorenzo-Vera and USA’s Richy Werenski. The South African banked a top 10 last week and will be full of confidence heading into his second PGA Championship.
The 2:13pm group sees Lee Westwood and Charles Howell join Shaun Norris, while the last time slot off the first features Dylan Frittelli, Andrew Filbert and Kurt Kitayama.
