• Tiger ready to play again

    Back in action

Current Masters Tournament and Tour Championship holder Tiger Woods is giving himself a chance of making the season finale by adding two events to his calendar.

One short of Sam Snead’s record of 81 PGA TOUR titles, Woods will play the Northern Trust at Liberty National in suburban New York next week and the BMW Championship at Medinah near Chicago in two weeks in a bid to line up for his defence at East Lake.

‘Ready to begin the FedExCup playoffs starting with @TheNTGolf and then the @BMWChamps. Hope to see you there,’ Woods tweeted.

Woods has a good record at Medinah where he has added two PGA Championship titles (1999, 2006) but has ‘only’ runner-ups at Liberty National (2009, 2013).

The 15-time Major champion is ranked 27th in the FedExCup rankings ahead of this week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, which will have the top 125 advance to the playoffs.

The top 70 after the Northern Trust advance to the BMW with the field cut to just 30 for the Tour Championship.

Woods has not played three weeks in a row since last year’s playoffs. The stretch left him exhausted and led to a far-reduced schedule this season.

Since victory at the Masters, he has played only this year’s three other major tournaments and the Memorial, a Nicklaus-hosted US Open tune-up event.

Woods has not played since missing the cut at The Open at Royal Portrush.
