    Wiratchant celebrates his maiden win

The third and final day of the MCB Tour Championship saw a number of records falling by the wayside after a masterclass in golf by Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant.

The first record to fall came in the form of a course record at the Legend course on the European Senior Tour. Sweden’s Jarmo Sandelin turned in 30 shots and added another five birdies, with a solitary bogey, to sign for a ten under par 62. According to Jarmo it’s one of the best rounds he has ever had.

Ireland’s Mark McNulty had an impressive showing with eight birdies for the day. Unfortunately, a double bogey on the short 11th followed by a bogey on the 12th, left him at five under par for the day. He ended the tournament on 15 under par in a commendable solo second place.

Thaworn Wiratchant, dressed in black, picked up where he left off on day two to run away with it and take his maiden win. Turning in 31 and with a three-shot lead he went into overdrive adding three more birdies before arriving at the par five 18th. His second ended five metres from the hole which he proceeded to sink for eagle to equal Sandelin’s 10 under par 62 and take the tournament by eight shots. His overall score of 23 under was also a record win. Having gained entry into the tour by way of exemption for a win on the European Tour it seems Wiratchant may be here to stay. Based on his performance at the MCB Tour Championship and history on the Asian Tour great things can be expected.

The John Jacobs Trophy was won by rookie Clark Dennis who arrived in Mauritius atop the order of merit. With all to play for on the final day his five under par 67 secured his name on the trophy followed by South Africa’s Chris Williams. With the Mauritian Commercial Bank and European Senior Tour confirming the next three years at Constance Belle Mare Plage the tournament is set to go from strength to strength.
