South Africa’s Wilco Nienaber has continued his excellent form of late and will head into the weekend in T3 at the Portugal Masters.

The 20-year-old made his move with a second-round 65 at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course on Friday that saw him jump 45 spots on the leaderboard and which means he will start moving day on 7 under par for the event.

Nienaber was out of the blocks with a lot of determination where he converted four birdies on the front nine before adding four more as he came home, while also dropping shots on the 12th and 18th holes to conclude the day with a 6 under.

He is, however, part of a group of nine players, who currently occupy 3rd spot in the hope of tracking down leader Julien Guerrier, who is seven strokes ahead on 14 under par, while American Sihwan Kim is in 2nd place on 9 under.

The Frenchman, though, opened with a spectacular first-round 62 on Thursday and backed that up with another solid display on Friday by shooting a 5-under 66.

Fellow South African George Coetzee also built on his good start by going 1 under for the second round and currently sits on 6 under par for the event and in T12.

Similarly, Compleat Golfer’s playing editor Brandon Stone made some headway by also adding a 70 to his opening-round 67 and is a further stroke back on 5 under par.

Bryce Easton dropped a shot on his first round and will start Saturday’s action on 2 under, while Jbe Kruger, Haydn Porteous, Jacques Kruyswijk and Justin Walters all missed the cut.
