Justin Harding and Louis de Jager made solid starts in the opening round of the British Masters, which got under way at Close House Golf Club in Newcastle on Wednesday.

The pair opened with respective rounds of 69 to sit on two under par  – and in T2 – following the conclusion of the first day.

Following a drop shot on the second hole, Harding did well to remain consistent throughout the rest of his round ranking up three birdies in total, while De Jager’s day was a bit more up and down with five birdies and three bogeys.

Compleat Golfer‘s playing editor, Brandon Stone, and Haydn Porteous made a steady start to their week with an even-par 71, while Zander Lombard, Bryce Easton and Justin Walters all opened their accounts with one over 72.

Dean Burmester found his opening round a bit tough and came home with a 73.

Scotland’s David Law, though, is the first-round leader after a brilliant 64, finishing on seven under par, while Englishman Oliver Fisher and Italy’s Renato Paratore will start Thursday’s second round one stroke back.
