Schwartzel has decided to take a break

Charl Schwartzel will not feature again on the world circuit in 2019 after opting for rest and recuperation as he tries to overcome a niggling wrist injury.

The 34-year-old, who was a late withdrawal from the PGA Championship in May, has missed four cuts in his last five events as he battles for form after initially opting to play through the pain and irritation of the constant issue.

‘I’ve been forced, due to my wrist injury to take the remainder of the season off to give my wrist time to rest and heal,’ he wrote on social media.

‘It’s very frustrating, but with a long career still ahead of me, I will get this fixed and I look forward to the comeback.’

Schwartzel, winner of the 2011 Masters Tournament and a previous world No 6,  has seen his ranking drop outside of the top 100 in recent months.
