    Harrington to take over?

Justin Rose has thrown his support behind three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington to lead Europe’s defense of the Ryder Cup in 2020.

Harrington served as a a vice-captain to Thomas Bjorn but is looking to take on the big job at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin in two years’ time.

‘I would say a three times major champion, clearly a European legend, for me Padraig is the frontrunner,’ said Rose.

‘And then you’ve got (Lee) Westwood … It’s interesting when you try to project out who the possible captains are for the next 10 Ryder Cups.’

Harrington, who played in six successive Ryder Cups from 1999 to 2010, has also been offered support by Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.

‘I’ve always thought Padraig would be a good captain in the United States. He’s won a lot of golf tournaments over there, he’s won a PGA Championship,’ said McIlroy.

‘I think the continuity in the European camp having all these vice-captains this year and preparing for captaincy down the road has been a huge foundation of why we’ve been so good.’
