Haydn Porteous will in all likelihood miss the cut at the Austrian Open, the first event back for the European Tour, after a back-nine 46.

The lone South African in the field stumbled into the clubhouse nine over par on Thursday.

He started well enough … three birdies and a bogey in opening five holes during his first competitive round back. Bogeys at seven and nine sandwiched his round’s fourth birdie. It would be his last until his final hole of the day.

Porteous tripled the 10th hole to fall down the leaderboard and dropped shots at 12, 14 and 16. Between those holes were a double at 13 and his second triple of the round on the par-five 15th.

A closing two on the short 18th hole was little consolation.

Joost Luiten leads the way after an opening 65.
