Phil Mickelson will partner up with basketball great Charles Barkley as they take on former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and three-time NBA champion Steph Curry in Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Change.

In what will be the third edition of ‘The Match’, Mickelson will headline the match-up with Tiger Woods not part of the mix this time around after competing in the first two instalments of the charity initiative.

Turner Sports will exclusively present the event on Friday, 27 November at Stone Canyon Golf Club in Oro Valley, Arizona, while the whole day will raise awareness about equality and diversity with all donations going to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The two teams will follow the format of a modified alternate shot matchplay. Mickelson will be hoping to be on the winning side in this encounter with Barkley at his side, while Manning, who was highly impressive in the last edition of The Match alongside Woods, will have Curry, a near-scratch player, in his corner.

‘I’m excited to return for the third edition of Capital One’s The Match and get out on the course with these three legendary athletes,’ said Mickelson.

‘While we may need a handicap for Chuck, I’m looking forward to playing with Peyton and Stephen and to help raise money for another important cause. It’s also going to give fans and viewers an up-close look at Stone Canyon Golf Club, a place that I’m extremely proud of and excited to show how special it is.’

Manning, on the other hand, is hoping to build on his previous success and keep his 100% win record intact in the process.

‘Capital One’s The Match in May was such a memorable experience for me – not just competing against rivals and friends but, more importantly, contributing to Covid-19 and food insecurity relief efforts,’ he said.

‘I’m proud of the work the PeyBack Foundation has done to support HBCU students in both Louisiana and Tennessee, and I’m looking forward to helping raise additional funding and awareness for HBCUs through Capital One’s The Match.’
