• Rory on slow play: It starts at our level

    McIlroy has spoken out

Make no mistake … golf has a serious problem with the pace of play and Rory McIlroy is just the latest to speak out about the issue.

McIlroy, speaking ahead of the Northern Trust, was at a loss to explain his feelings at the length of how long 18 holes takes to play on the PGA Tour.
But the four-time Major champion believes it’s not just the elite level that is suffering.
‘It starts at our level because people try to emulate us,’ he said.
‘I’ve heard stories of college events and how long they take. There’s no reason why it should take that long. It has to be addressed in some way.’
The solution? Implement a stricter penalty policy.
‘The guys that are slow are the guys that get too many chances before they are penalised. It should be a warning and then a penalty shot. It should be that you’re put on the clock and that is your warning. Then if you get a bad time while on the clock, it’s a shot. That will stamp it out right away,’ said the Northern Irishman.
