Rory McIlroy, paired in the final group with Gary Woodland, refused to get too hard on himself after failing to land the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The four-time Major winner, who will play most of his golf in America in 2019, was a non-runner in the final round at Kapalua Resort, with Woodland finishing one short of Xander Schauffele in the year’s first event.
‘My attitude was much better. I didn’t press at all, I was very patient,’ said McIlroy, who returned to a TaylorMade Spider putter for the week.
‘I obviously could have shot a better score, but I did what I wanted to do, gave myself plenty of chances, just couldn’t get the ball to drop.
‘It’s just something I am going to have to persist with, keep putting myself in these situations,’ he added.
The Northern Irishman has now gone 0-7 when in the final group, with his latest miss being added to high-profile slips at The Masters, the World Golf Championships – FedEx St Jude Invitational, the BMW Championship and TOUR Championship, the Dubai Desert Classic and the European PGA Championship.
