Sam Horsfield has become the latest player to withdraw from this week’s US Open after testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

The Englishman is the second infected player after PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Scottie Scheffler also announced his withdrawal from the event due to Covid-19.

Horsfield took to Twitter to share the news that he would not be in action at Winged Foot Golf Club, where the best golfers in the world will assemble for the start of the year’s second Major on Thursday.

The 23-year-old, who won twice on the European Tour in August, said he originally tested positive prior to travelling to New York last week but has ‘subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 at the US Open testing centre and have therefore had to withdraw from the tournament’.
