One winner. One heartbreak. Two headed to Royal Portrush with significant Official World Golf Ranking moves after a thrilling weekend on both Major tours.

Frittelli’s win had him board the charter flight from TPC Deere Run to Northern Ireland where he will join the South Africans in the field for the year’s final Major championship. Among those moving from Scotland to Royal Portrush is Van Rooyen, but unlike the player he partnered at the World Cup of Golf, he isn’t headed as the latest winner on tour.

A quadruple bogey at the second had Van Rooyen fall from the frame at the Scottish Open. He would settle for a closing 72 and a share of 14th place.

The result lifted him just five places to 84th in the latest rankings. He is now eight places above Frittelli, who moved closer to his 2019 starting point of 76.

The 29-year-old, who is now exempt for next year’s Masters and Players Championship, will start The Open ranked 92nd in the world.

The top 15 remained unchanged with Louis Oosthuizen still the leading South Africans in 22nd place. Justin Harding, who missed the cut in Scotland, dropped two places to 50th with Branden Grace, another Saffa to miss the cut at The Renaissance Club, now down in 67th after starting the year in 48th.
