Dylan Frittelli shot a stunning seven-under-par 64 for his second round on Friday to move within touching distance of the leaders at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Frittelli managed six birdies, one eagle and a single bogey throughout his round to climb to 11 under par for the event ahead of moving day.

The South African occupies T13 and will start the third round three shots behind leaders Martin Laird, Patrick Cantlay, Brain Harman, Austin Cook and Peter Malnati, who all sit on 14 under par.

Overnight leader Bryson DeChambeau shot a second-round 67 on Friday and sits on 13 under for the week, one shot behind the group of leaders.

The US Open champion, however, is confident that his patience will come off over the course of the weekend.

‘Any time you’re near the lead in a PGA Tour event I’m excited. There is no doubt about it. I definitely left some shots out there as I made a few great shots.

‘So, can’t be too displeased with that, and look forward to hitting a couple more shots better and making a few putts that I need to that I didn’t middle of the round. Clean that up tomorrow and hopefully I can keep going low.’

Louis Oosthuizen will head into the weekend on nine under par and in T26, while Charl Schwartzel and MJ Daffue missed the cut.
