South African duo Jovan Rebula and Marco Steyn have missed the cut after two rounds of strokeplay at the 120th US Amateur Championship, hosted at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

In what proved to be quite a tricky battle for many players at the Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails golf courses, Rebula’s hopes of qualifying for the matchplay stage of the event ended with rounds of 78 and 75 – finishing on a disappointing 10 over par.

Rebula, who recently returned to Auburn University in Alabama for a fifth year of college golf, rolled in three birdies during his second round but suffered blows with four bogeys and a nasty double-bogey on the par-four 16th.

Steyn, on the other hand, finished his quest for a spot in the matchplay with rounds of 75 and 76 after playing the Bandon Trails course on Thursday.

It meant he could he only manage an eight over par for the event, which is also far from his best with the cut set at two over.

The congested leaderboard means a total of 18 players will battle it out in a playoff on Wednesday for the final three spots in the matchplay.
