World No 1 Dustin Johnson has withdrawn from this week’s CJ Cup in Las Vegas after testing positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.

Having experienced a number of symptoms, Johnson went through the necessary PGA Tour processes and was subsequently tested, returning a positive result.

This would have been Johnson’s first appearance since the US Open a couple of weeks ago as many of the world’s top golfers begin preparations for next month’s Masters at Augusta National.

‘Obviously, I am very disappointed,’ said Johnson.

‘I was really looking forward to competing this week, but will do everything I can to return as quickly as possible. I have already had a few calls with the Tour’s medical team and appreciate all the support and guidance they have given me.’

Johnson, who also won the 2020 FedEx Cup after an excellent run of results throughout the year, will now begin to self-isolate and will be replaced by first alternate JT Poston for Shadow Creek.
