Bryce Easton got off to a flying start at the Scottish Championship by shooting a brilliant seven-under-par 65 on the opening day at Fairmont St Andrews.

The South African managed to finish the first round in T2, alongside Matt Wallace and three shots behind leader Adrian Otaegui, who went 10 under on Thursday.

Easton was working his magic from the very first hole by opening his account with a birdie before adding three more to complete the front nine.

The 33-year-old bogeyd the 10th hole but made up for the drop shot with three more birdies on the 12th, 13th and 15th holes.

Another drop shot on the 16th appeared to have halted some of the progress he made throughout the day, but Easton signed off with an excellent eagle on the par-five 18th hole.

Compleat Golfer playing editor Brandon Stone also made a pretty solid start to his week in Scotland by carding a bogey-free 65 for his opening round to conclude the day on five under par and in T8.

Countryman Justin Walters fought hard throughout his first-round showing and will be fairly happy with his one-under-par 71, while Dean Burmester and Justin Harding struggled on opening day by both shooting a three-over 75.
