Golf in South Africa shuts down from midnight on Thursday with British courses also following government-mandated protocols to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

Administrative bodies in England, Scotland and Wales have ordered golf courses to close following the new outline given by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

It means that approximately 1,900 courses will be closed temporarily.

‘Following on from the Prime Minister’s statement tonight golf clubs, courses and facilities in England must now close. It is England Golf’s position that this deeply regrettable, but highly necessary and responsible course of action must be implemented with immediate effect and be maintained until further notice.

‘Keeping golf courses open is simply no longer compatible with the updated policy of government which is designed to save lives in a time of national emergency,’ read a England Golf statement.

This means that well over 50% of Europe’s golf courses are now closed with more added to the list daily.
