• Flawless Bezuidenhout flies high

    Christiaan Bezuidenhout
    Cheers to that

Christiaan Bezuidenhout may have broken through earlier in the season but on Friday he put himself in contention for a Rolex Series win at the BMW PGA at Wentworth.

Bezuidenhout’s win at Valderrama Masters was one of the season’s highlights. Now, he is within two of the halfway lead shared by the hometown hero that day, Jon Rahm, and a former Masters winner in Danny Willett.

The South African is in fine company … he sits in a share of third with Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson. Lofty company but justified.

Bezuidenhout’s day was bogey-free as he displayed the crisp stroke-making he is becoming synonymous for. Birdies at 1, 4 and 5 set him in motion and he never looked back.

Gains at 12 and 15 moved him ever closer to the lead which never materialized after pars at 17 and 18.

Countryman George Coetzee dropped 12 places to share 17th place after an even round 72.
