Dylan Frittelli, now a PGA Tour member, moved into a share of fourth place at the Nedbank Golf Challenge after a 67 on Friday, writes WADE PRETORIUS in Sun City.

The two-time European Tour winner was one of the big winners in round two after ending 27 places higher up the leaderboard once the sun had set at the Gary Player Country Club.

Frittelli is now just four off the lead of Sergio Garcia, who bogeyed the last for a 71.

He may have settled into life in Austin, Texas but he was 100% South African in his local knowledge in round two as he took advantage of his early start.

‘Yes, I am pretty happy with that. I had a couple bogeys on the par threes, but besides that, it was a flawless round,’ he said post-round.

‘The course was a little bit easier today. The wind kind of settled down and was a little more consistent.

Yesterday I feet like it was switching on a lot of holes, and you’re looking up in the sky trying to figure it out. I just felt more comfortable on the golf course today.’

Pleased with how his overall play had improved, he knows that he needs to repeat today’s score over the weekend as the course continues to offer up low scoring opportunities.

‘It’s going to take two really low ones to get into contention. Hopefully I keep climbing the leaderboard and making birdies. That’s the goal.’

If birdies – he had seven today – was the aim, then the goal is achieved. Another low round tomorrow and the current four-shot deficit to the lead could disappear entirely.
