he all-South African lineup of captain Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Dean Burmester and Branden Grace now turn their attention to one of the most distinctive challenges on the LIV Golf calendar, with altitude set to play a defining role.
Host venue Club de Golf Chapultepec, situated more than 7,000 feet above sea level, is the highest-elevated course on the LIV Golf circuit. The thinner air is expected to produce significant distance gains off the tee, placing a premium on control and precision throughout the field.
Southern Guards GC captain Louis Oosthuizen highlighted the unique test: “It’s Johannesburg on steroids because I think we’re at 7,500 feet here. I think Johannesburg is at 4,600 or something. The big hitters are going to hit it even further here.”.
The Mexico City stop also provides an opportunity for Southern Guards GC to build on the momentum generated at LIV Golf South Africa, where the team delivered a standout performance in front of record home crowds.
Oosthuizen believes the team is building towards something bigger as the season progresses: “I think we’re all on a good high after a second-place finish in South Africa. We expect to get a win this season and to keep fighting for that top three to give ourselves a chance at the Team Championship.”
At the 2025 edition of LIV Golf Mexico City, Southern Guards GC finished seventh in the team standings, with Charl Schwartzel the highest-placed player in a tie for seventh. Torque GC’s Joaquin Niemann claimed the individual title, while Legion XIII secured the team victory.
With confidence building and momentum on their side, Southern Guards GC will be looking to translate recent performances into a strong showing in Mexico City as they continue their push up the standings.
