Wilco Nienaber will take a narrow one-shot lead into the final round of the Joburg Open on Sunday after carding a third-round 67.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a pretty successful three days so far at Randpark Golf Club and will hope on one more impressive showing to clinch his maiden European Tour crown.

After a difficult start to his round on Saturday, Nienaber managed to get his rhythm going, holing three consecutive birdies on 12, 13 and 14 to go four under for the day.

His long-driving ability was also a huge advantage again, given the significant amount of rain that fell in Johannesburg since Friday and throughout Saturday’s action.

At 16 under par, Nienaber will start the final round just ahead of Denmark’s Joachim Hansen, who shot a spectacular seven-under 63 on Saturday to get in contention on 15 under par.

Compleat Golfer playing editor Brandon Stone, Shaun Norris, Jacques Blaauw and England’s Richard Bland are all in T3 and on 11 under par.
