    Adidas Tour 360 review
The Tour 360s passed the test with flying colours

Compleat Golfer put the new adidas Tour 360 golf shoes to the test on the course to see if they could match up to the hype generated around their release, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

The short answer to whether these shoes – as worn by world No 1 Justin Johnson when he won the Northern Trust Open – live up to their hype is an emphatic ‘Yes’! Here’s why …

These shoes, an upgrade on Adidas’ most popular golf shoes, have been thrust into the spotlight as all sequels of smash hits do. But where many later versions fail, the new Tour 360 has been a success only, with the footwear giant managing to improve an already superior product with a number of slick changes.

Excuse the ‘tech speak’ for a minute, but one of the major selling points is the ‘Torsion Tunnel’, which provides independent flexibility and control between the heel and forefoot, while providing enhanced arch support and improved green friendliness, The other major boost is the ‘Advanced dual-density 10-cleat Puremotion TPU outsole’ with strategically placed CenTraxion for stability and grip, which brings the player closer to the ground for better transfer, balance and stability, and more consistent ball-striking with increased power.

What this translates to on the course for players of all skill levels is an incredible base from which to hit, and ultimate comfort and security in all shot stances on any given lie. What was particularly impressive during this test was how the shoes stood up to the elements, rain being the order for most of the morning. Not only are the new Tour 360s backed up by a two-year 100% waterproof warranty, but they handle the wet brilliantly with no adverse effects on any shot.

Most golfers need that piece of mind over a shot they play and this something that the new version delivers and then some, with the cleat system providing all the necessary support from tee to green.

The Boost technology also allows the golfer to get that ‘walking on air’ feeling, something that lasted from the practise range until the final putt on the 18th hole. These shoes also offer the right amount of support for your arch, which means post-round aches and pains may just be a thing of the past.

What also impressed me was the wide width option of the shoe. Your feet have enough space to feel like they can ‘breathe’, but are never in doubt of being lost in the shoe. The lace system can be done in a way that gives you great support for the top half your foot, while not compromising on ankle support in any way.

Appearance is also vitally important to the modern golfer and it is another area where these shoes get a big tick. The leather upper gives you peace of mind that the shoe is going to last and stand up to the conditions that you throw at it, making the price (RRP is R3699) a lot more palatable.

Adidas have combined style and comfort in a big way to produce an excellent golf shoe that’s good enough for Dustin and many, many others too.

The new adidas Tour 360 golf shoes are available in white/black, white/blue and black/white.
