• US Open at Pebble Beach: Who’s in?

    Ernie Els and Jovan Rebula
    Family matters

Just two South Africans are guaranteed a place in the field as the US Open returns to Pebble Beach Golf Links for the sixth time in June.

Ernie Els and nephew Jovan Rebula will be in attendance after Els was exempted by the USGA.

Rebula made his Masters debut and opened up about how his uncle talked him through each hole and shot selection on the eve of his first start. Now, the pair will play in a Major together, creating further history.

The field currently includes players qualifying by virtue of their performances in past US Opens, Major championships and other significant events in 2018 and 2019. Next month’s PGA Championship winner will be exempt, as well as the leading 60 players on the Official World Golf Rankings on 20 May and again on 10 June.

At this rate, Louis Oosthuizen, Justin Harding and Branden Grace will be added to the field.

The rest of the field is made up from qualifiers by the tournament’s sectional qualifying process.
