Louis Oosthuizen hit 10 of 18 greens in regulation during his first round at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, finishing at two under.
Oosthuizen finished his day tied for 27th alongside countryman Jaco Ahlers, who is making his USA debut this week.
The pair, and the field, trail England’s Ian Poulter, who finished at eight under. American duo Rickie Fowler and Kyle Stanley were closest to Poulter after 63s with Patrick Cantlay, Si Woo Kim and Jon Rahm tied for fourth at six under.
After a 289-yard drive on the 526-yard par-five 2nd, Oosthuizen chipped his third shot to three feet, which he rolled for a one-putt birdie on the hole, moving the South African to one under for the round.
On the 482-yard par-four 8th, Oosthuizen dropped a shot after hitting the green in three and two-putting, moving Oosthuizen back to one under for the round after he had rolled in a nine-footer on the 5th for his second gain of the day.
His final gain of the day came at the 180-yard par-three 12th where he set himself up with an iron to 11 foot.
