It has been confirmed: Tiger Woods will be at the 2018 Ryder Cup as a member of the American team, but his role is up for debate.

Woods was named on Tuesday as one of Jim Furyk’s vice-captains alongside Steve Stricker. The pair join Davis Love III as part of Furyk’s brains trust.

But the 14-time Major champion, who missed the cut last week at Riviera, wants to play.

‘My goal is to make the team, but whatever happens over the course of this season, I will continue to do what I can to help us keep the Cup,’ Woods said.

‘I’m excited about the challenge ahead.’

Woods is currently outside the top 100 in the US team standings as he continues his comeback from a series of injuries. He is in action this week at The Honda Classic where Rickie Fowler defends.
