McIlroy finished second at the SA Open

Former world number one Rory McIlroy will play in eight events, including two in the Middle East, as he prepares for The Masters in April.

McIlroy is currently working his way back to full fitness after taking three months out of the game but has now confirmed his schedule in the buildup to the one Major that eludes him. The four-time Major champion picked up a rib injury during the SA Open where he lost in a playoff to Graeme Storm. The injury continued to plague him throughout the year where he finished without a win to his name.

The Northern Irishman will tee it up at the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi and then the Dubai Desert Classic before making his first PGA Tour start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he will play with his father, Gerry.

McIlroy has then committed to the Genesis Open, the Honda Classic, the Valspar Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the World Match Play Championship before The Masters.

Close friend Harry Diamond, who stood in for the 28-year-old after he parted ways with JP Fitzgerald, will continue to carry McIlroy’s bag in 2018.
