    Burmester's putter came alive

Dean Burmester was pleased with his opening round 66 at Randpark’s Firethorn course but he was most pleased with his putting.

Burmester was solid from tee to green as he went bogey free on Thursday to sit two shots off the pace set by Keenan Davidse.

‘It’s obviously nice, I went bogey-free so that helps,’ he said after round one.

‘I like the conditions back home and I always play nicely back home so it’s good to get a nice little 66 under the belt.

‘Everything was pretty much solid, I did everything okay.

‘I missed a couple of greens and got some good up-and-downs so those par-saves are crucial for the confidence and to keep the ball rolling. I drove it okay, but I could improve and hit a bit more fairways, I think. I have to say the putter has come alive again.’
