‘I think it’s awesome,’ said the world number one at Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Wednesday, responding to the European Tour’s decision to allow players to wear shorts during practice rounds and pro-ams. ‘It will be something that I would love to see on the PGA Tour, as well. I’ve not heard one person complain about it.’

    Rory McIlroy

‘I think it’s a good idea to let guys wear shorts in practice rounds,’ said McIlroy, who was wearing long pants for the pro-am Wednesday at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. ‘I don’t think it should be too big a deal. You look at every other sport and people are allowed to expose their legs, so I don’t see why we’re not allowed to, either.’

    Ian Poulter

‘It makes perfect sense to me,’ the Englishman said on Tuesday. ‘There shouldn’t be a problem with us wearing shorts to practice. So I’ll be baring my legs tomorrow. In fact, I really don’t see a problem with wearing shorts during tournaments. I mean it is 2016.’

     Ernie Els

“Isn’t this great,” smiled Els, who showed up for a practice round on Tuesday wearing blue shorts.
