• NGC 2018: What they earned

    Louis Oosthuizen at NGC2018
    Louis was going for glory

Half a dozen of the South Africans in action at the 2018 Nedbank Golf Challenge left Sun City more than a million rand richer. We look at the breakdown.

Louis Oosthuizen, South Africa’s top-ranked player, said after the round that he had no regrets in trying to go for the miracle shot that would’ve helped him finish solo second. Blocked out on the right off the tee, Oosthuizen took on the smallest of gaps through the trees but his ball clipped the cart path and ricocheted backwards back into the grandstand. A double-bogey followed and that allowed Sergio Garcia to finish second. The Spaniard claimed the cheque of R11,840,323 with Oosthuizen ‘settling for’ R6,668,409.

Africa’s Major proved to be extremely lucrative for Darren Fichardt, who bag a second successive top 10 finish, and Dean Burmester. Both earned a handsome payday but more importantly, played their way into the season finale in Dubai which sets them up for another big cheque in the final Rolex Series event of the year.
