A slow Sunday at The Northern Trust prevented Louis Oosthuizen from continuing his climb up the FedExCup standings with three events to play.

The lone South African to make the cut, Oosthuizen hit nine of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation, finishing at six under for the tournament.

He went out in 39 following a bogey at the 6th, a double at the next and another drop on the 8th.

A back-nine fightback included a birdie from seven feet on the 10th, another from 36 feet at the next and a 12-footer at the par-five 13th. A birdie at the 17th was sandwiched by drops on either side to conclude a disappointing day that saw Oosthuizen drop 14 places to share 28th place.

The result leaves Oosthuizen, who sits in 69th place on the moneylist, and Branden Grace as South Africa’s remaining players in the FedExCup playoffs with the latter now ranked 91st after missing the cut at Ridgewood.

Charl Schwartzel and Rory Sabbatini both missed the cut and dropped out of the top 100 advancing to the Dell Technologies in Boston where 100 players face off for the 70 spots on offer for the penultimate playoff event, the BMW Championship outside Philadelphia.
