Els missed the cut by a single shot

Bogeys at the 36th hole saw Ernie Els and Tyrone Van Aswegen finish their PGA TOUR season with a missed cut at the Wyndham Championship.

Both South Africans missed the mark by a single shot after a late mistake.

Els was on track in a quiet round that included a single birdie until he stood on the 18th tee while Van Aswegen’s finish was a lot more adventurous with a conclusion that read birdie, bogey, birdie, bogey.

That last bogey was the nail in his season’s coffin as he dropped out of 125th place in the moneylist and will not advance to the Northern Trust, the first of the finals events next week.

Both players signed for a 70 after matching 68s on Thursday. Retief Goosen, who opened with a 71, joined the pair on the sidelines after a 73. The two-time Major champion makes it three Saffas who’s race this season is run after ending 151 in the FedExCup standings.

Rory Sabbatini is the the lone cut survivor as he climbed 32 places with a second round 67.

At the top of the pile, the newest member of the 59 club – Brandt Snedeker – leads by two after 67.
